Something for everyone

NEW HOMES OF ALL TYPES AND SIZES

The Wheat Quarter will form a new residential community within walking distance to the train station and town centre. We’ll be providing homes for everyone; homes to rent, homes to buy and retirement homes. There will be new landscaped footpaths and cycle paths linking up the site to the town centre and beyond.

Employment

Hundreds of jobs will be created in both the commercial buildings and through construction. Many of these jobs could go to people living in The Wheat Quarter or in neighbouring residential areas.

CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES

The Art Hub remains the cultural heart of the scheme. It will bring and show local and international art to Welwyn Garden City along with a huge raft of associated benefits. The rooftop of the silos will host the Falcon Bar, with far-reaching views all across the area. Outside the Art Hub at ground floor level is Goodman Square which will provide specifically chosen small cafes and restaurants for local people to meet and enjoy more options than are currently available in the Howard Centre and along Howardsgate and in a totally different setting. Overall, the Art Hub and its immediate surroundings will deliver an almost immeasurably better sense of place and arrival experience for locals and visitors alike. A new motorbike museum will be opened, attracting motor enthusiasts from across the country.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES

A cycle hub, gym and healthcare facilities are proposed within the Bridge Building which sits by the pedestrian bridge into the town centre and adjacent to the Sensory Garden.
